New Retail Under Construction in The Loop – Tour and Reception

Come join the RCA as we get up close and personal looks at two projects by Gallant opening later this year in the heart of downtown Chicago. We’ll visit the two projects for hard hat visits / tours and hear from the project team(s) about the challenges and successes in bringing these two national retailers / brands into the heart of Chicago.

Following our project visits, we’ll convene nearby to Continue the Conversation with an evening networking reception complete with appetizers and beverages.

Barnes & Noble is coming back to Chicago in a big way. This summer, the country's largest bookseller will open its biggest Chicago store yet: a 30,000-square-foot flagship at 150 N. State Street, right in the heart of the Loop. The space was once home to Old Navy and, which closed in 2023. Before that, the rival chain Borders Books claimed the space.

Also coming to the loop this summer is the new Portillo's at 300 N. Michigan Avenue, steps from the Chicago River and surrounded by offices, hotels and tourist traffic. The Michigan Avenue restaurant would be the third downtown Portillo’s and fourth location in the city. For anyone craving an Italian beef during the workday, a Chicago-style hot dog after shopping, or a late-afternoon chocolate cake shake, the location will deliver.

3:00 - 3:30 pm - Arrive / Check in at 150 N State Street
3:30 - 4:15 pm - Barnes and Noble Presentation / Tour
4:15 - 4:30 pm - Walk to 300 N Michigan Ave.
4:30 - 5:15 pm - Portillo's Presentation / Tour
5:30 - 8:00 pm - Networking Reception (Location TBD)
